A dear resident friend moved at the end of June. He could not afford the rent on a tiny “studio” apartment. He left his unit in good condition but management is hounding him for $170.00 “move-out fee.” He entertained us a couple of times a month, singing and playing his guitar. He never received compensation for his time (“outside” entertainers are paid). When he asked management if the $170.00 owed could be covered by money he didn’t receive, he was told “absolutely not.” ~~ If we pay our rent by check or money order, there is an additional $25.00 charge. If the resident pays via Debit Card or Credit Card, the fee is a percentage of their rent (far more than $25.00). ~~ Meals delivered to the resident apartment are $10.00 each. ~~ One resident friend enjoyed a visit from grandchildren, on Father’s Day, and sat at the table with him during lunch, in the dining room. They didn’t eat, but my resident friend was charged $40.00 for his four guests. ~~ I’ll spare you the details regarding additional charges.
That resident should dispute the charges. His family should get involved and help. Some cities have a “consumer affairs” type office that help citizens resolve issues with businesses. I’m guessing they would like everyone to set up automatic payment. A lot of places are doing that these days. Do they charge extra if you pay in cash?
