I’d move to Advent Christian Village and enjoy the benefits denied at the retirement facility I reside in. Below is a portion of the email message I received today. Sounds so inviting! However, this old lady (almost 90) doesn’t have the energy to prepare for a move. Honestly, not even the energy to “downsize” the overabundance of memorabilia and clutter. Actually, I know of several “Brethren” Christian retirement facilities that would, likewise, be a “better fit” for me. I’ve contacted Timbercrest, in North Manchester, Indiana, but “know” there would be an enormous cost to move that far (from Waco, Texas). Why is this uppermost in my mind at this time? In a couple of days, our rent is due. The new policy dictates an additional $25.00 if I pay with a check (my custom). On my “anniversary” (June first) my rent goes up ten percent (or more?). ~~ Our kitchen experienced a fire a couple of weeks ago and the meal selections have been unsatisfactory, in my humble opinion. Because of “unsatisfactory” meals, I remained in my apartment for six days. I didn’t even venture into the corridor or across the corridor to the laundry room. Not a single soul checked to see if I was alive or dead. True story: Six full days until (about six PM) one resident called and my cell phone experienced a malfunction. Recently, I published a blog message titled “Elder Abuse.” I may be the healthiest resident (here) and I agonize for fellow residents.
