A kind, thoughtful, considerate, generous friend sent an Internet link to the following story. “Friend” has heard stories about my struggle with depression because of rejection. “Friend” knows the pain when Lakeshore Estates residents refer to me as “the crazy lady.” True story: I just want to (1) be a blessing, and (2) put a smile on their faces. “Friend” added this personal note to the message: “Keep being yourself, Lorraine!” ~~ Much needed encouragement because I had decided to abandon the “Easter bonnet and Sunday–go–to–Church” dress and “April foolish” outfit.
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) [North Carolina] — On a warm and sunny Good Friday, trees are in bloom, people are walking their dogs, and wind chimes fill the air under a light breeze.
But there’s something new that catches the eye; Easter eggs hanging from every neighbor’s tree.
“The eggs are new,” said neighbor Abby Quinn. “They’re so cute. Every house in our neighborhood has them. I think there’s over 100 houses with eggs.”
The eggs showed up on people’s doorsteps one day handmade by one of their neighbors.
“I bought 1,200 Easter eggs and strung them and passed them out with a note all about her,” said Dianna Byers.
Last month, at 77 years old, Caroline White passed away. She had lived on Sunset Drive for 50 years, representing everything it means to be a good neighbor and friend.
“She would have an Easter egg hunt in her front yard, and it was just sort of the beginning of Spring,” Byers said. “Everybody would come with a cocktail and just be outside and be together and she would hang Easter eggs from her tree.”
Some described her as the most beautiful human being who was gorgeous inside and out. Even those who didn’t know her personally say they feel like they did.
The eggs honor 50-year community resident Caroline White.
“She did have a really big impact on this neighborhood,” said Alexa Mangiapane. “Even though I don’t have children, I think a lot of families who have children, they kind of looked up to her as an older family member just because of everything she did for the community.”
The neighbors, Christian or not, decided to carry on Caroline’s love for Easter, by hanging the eggs in their trees as a reminder of her, and a reminder of what it means to be kind to one another.
“I hope it spreads,” Byers said, “and I hope it represents everything that she was and that we hope Sedgefield represents.”
