Unique experience

Yesterdayfor the convenience of the residents at Lakeshore Estateswe could have our hearing tested and our ears cleaned. To the question “Have you ever had a hearing test,”  my answer was “no.”  Through the years, I have used a “clean your ears” product from the drugstore section of my food market, or Walmart. Well, my left ear was very clean but the right ear had pea-size cement. It required a lot of work to removeand was painful (to remove). Then, the hearing test revealed that I have more than 50% loss.  I ordered hearing aids because I will have regular carebecause he comes every two months.

True story: I’ve been contemplating the purchase of the $299.00 aids that I see advertised on TV. Fortunately, I procrastinated because the kind, thoughtful, generous technician said he hears complaints all the time about “the TV item.” I didn’t tell him that I purchased something similar (inexpensive) a couple of years ago and could not wear them because they “whistled” all the time. I didn’t have anyone to help me I sold them for $30.00 at the recent garage sale (here at  Lakeshore Estates).

Frankly, I’ve been embarrassed time and time again because I did not hearor understandwhat another resident was saying to me. I’d say “Forgive me, I have a hearing problem; please repeat what you said.”  Not a new problem; I experienced the same “embarrassment” while living at the RV Park. Furthermore, as recently as Wednesday, I had to ask my doctor to repeat what she just said.
